This is going to be a different format for today. I have started and stopped about five different articles and haven’t been able to get something down that I like. My mind just isn’t into it because my girlfriend is driving back from Vegas having finished her summer internship and I am ecstatic. I’m sure the whole time I’ll be on the phone with her as she randomly sings songs and makes noises, even now she is screaming on the line for someone to pass her. So I just wanted to touch on a free form rant here and get back to the real article content tomorrow.
So here are some questions to ponder.
Do you ever get frustrated at games like Diablo because you know that you won’t be able to get all the legendary items? The completionist in me goes crazy when I play a large looter shooter or dungeon crawler and realize how much loot there actually is. I love these games and the mind-numbing effect of just having a good time in them. It is also just a land of folly because trying to max out everything is unrealistic. Even now I have a friend trying to still finish stuff up in Borderlands 2 before the next title releases and get some more guns he has been after. What is the point?
Do you ever wonder why so many people fall for every rumor on gaming there is? I work in retail where I have had people coming in for the past four years asking when the PS6 and the Xbox 2 is coming out. When you try to be rational and tell them how things work they scream how they saw it on the internet. When you get angry people saying they want NCAA 2020 because they know for a fact it is a real thing and doesn’t want to hear how the last one was NCAA 14. When will old ladies understand you can’t play Mario on the Xbox and old dudes realize I don’t want to square up with you in real life because you killed me in an online shooter.
Do you ever sit and dwell on what you will do when true Virtual Reality is a thing? Watch .Hack or Sword Art once and tell me you wouldn’t think twice on taking a deep dive and being in a gaming world. Will it be addicting? What will happen to the real world as people build their digital ones? Will we see things happen like Ready Player One or will it be like The Reality Bug by D.J. MacHale in the Pendragon books? Will people just want a world of escapism or will it make us into a utopia where people can earn from anywhere and can go out and enjoy real life more? I’m scared and excited at the same time when I think about VR. As a gamer, I think it would be the ultimate experience, but that also raises the question of what is too much?
Three questions I wanted to raise to pass the time today. The normal articles will be back up tomorrow when things settle back down a bit. I’m just excited and sometimes with your brain is so focused on one area it can be hard to get in the zone and bring it back to where it needs to be. Let me know what you think about this short rambling and if it is something you would like to see again. Also if you want to use some of these as writing prompts go for it, just give me a tag so I know I’m helping someone out.
